Cycling the Holland Tunnel
Sunday, 22 April 2007

Here's a guy that's really showing us a little slice of life from the big apple. He's being dangerous and probably violating a few city statutes, but hey, he's a New Yorker and he's entertaining us in the process. He's also convinced me that driving in New York is the stupid thing to do. Having said that, I wonder how many times he's come off that bike when someone opens their door on him?

'Promiscuous' The Overly Caucasian Remix
Saturday, 21 April 2007

Nelly Furtado is all over the charts right now but she can't escape this mashup by Mark Cannataro. I definitely like Mark's style. He's self deprecating and scathing at the same time. I hope that this gets as much airtime as the Alanis Morissette version of 'My Humps' that came out not too long ago.

Children of Men - Long Takes
Friday, 20 April 2007

Children of Men was one of the best films of 2006. And one of its notable touches was the use of long takes by director, Alfonso Cuaron. For those with an interest in the filmmaking process here is a short documentary clip explaining some of the techniques that the production team used to produce these magic shots.

Star Wars Gangsta Rap
Friday, 20 April 2007

Star Wars is cool but Star Wars animated fan parodies are even cooler. This is a slick little gangsta rap video that stands tall because the rap is actually not bad. The animation is pretty clean while the dancing stormtroopers steal the show. C'mon and geek out to a video that features an evil emperor from the Westside.

Indiana State Police - Too Much Explosive
Thursday, 19 April 2007

We all know SWAT teams love to break down doors and raid the bad guys. But what happens when they are practicing a forced entry where you have to blow the door to get in and someone uses a little too much explosive charge? Well, in a perfect world it probably shouldn't have gone like this...

Chris Isaak 'Wicked Game'
Thursday, 19 April 2007

Here's Chris Isaak's single, Wicked Game, with the David Lynch 'Wild At Heart' version of the filmclip.  Chris Isaak is the type of singer that seems to just keep putting out classic songs.  We've all heard this on the radio but it still holds up all these years later.

Fun With Giant Slingshots!
Tuesday, 17 April 2007

Humans are funny things. We take a naturally occuring substance such as rubber and somehow through sheer force of will transform it into a implement of fun, destruction and sometimes pain. Please observe the following episodes in the seemingly never ending video show, 'What Can We Do With A Slingshot Today?'

This is perhaps the most famous human slingshot that's out at the moment and it really is a great spectacle. Whoever these people are and how then came up with this is irrelevant to the fact that they totally FLING-THAT-GIRL!

Here's a typical group of English university students doing what students do best - trashing stuff for the sake of laughs. The fact that the CRT monitor lived to tell the tale after being slingshotted with objects of increasing density is what really makes this video. I mean, it survived a can of beans for crying out loud. What do they make these things out of?

This is cheating a little bit because it's in fact a Sprite commercial but it involves a giant sling shot nonetheless. And we all have a friend that we wish we could do this to. Or for some of us - many friends.

What happens when some good 'ol boys watch too many episodes of 'Jackass' and decide to have some fun? Someone gets a lipstick bullet slingshotted into their head at way too high a velocity. Let's all be thankful that he didn't try this with a steel bee-bee or something that would send him to prison on manslaughter charges.

These next two are very similar and show that people can be foolhardy on both sides of the Atlantic ocean. The first one is an American stuntman and the second vid is entirely in French, so I don't really know who the heroic victim is. Both show a human slingshot that is taken to its natural extreme conclusion - slinging a human so high in the air that he has to parachute down to stop from plummeting to his death. Nice.

I don't know what to say about this one. I don't know whether to be shocked that he almost fell out or amazed that 'Janice' laughed it up the whole time. Am I a bad man to find the repeated phrase, 'It hurts...it hurts' just so bizarre that it's funny?

And here we have a slingshot from that crazy annual event that we call 'Burning Man'. The problem with this is that it's just so lame. Like really lame for a wild rockin' freakshow like Burning Man. C'mon people shouldn't you be painted purple or have fireworks in your ears while you do this? At least try to go a little bit faster...I'm beginning to think that investment bankers have more fun at their parties.

Anchorman 300 mashup
Monday, 16 April 2007

Most people are either a fan of Will Ferrell or they hate all his movies. 'Anchorman: the Legend of Ron Burgundy' was a bit hit and miss in the comedy department for me. Some of the scenes are definitely gold but others just fall flat or are too long.  In my opinion, this pairing of the audio from the trailer to '300' with Anchorman footage is actually funnier than the fight scene in the original film.
